What is a Search Engine?
Around 90% of all websites visited on the Internet are found through the use of search engines.
A search engine allows Internet users to search the net using specific keywords and keyphrases. Examples of a search engines are Google, msn, Yahoo!. Google accounts for around 85% of all traffic generated through search engines.
A search engine maintains databases of websites by using programmes to collect information, which is then indexed by search engines. So essentially, when you use a search engine like Google, you are searching a database and not the Internet itself.
