Site Architecture & PageRank

The architecture of a site is very important in a number of different areas of search engine optimisation. PageRank can be held high in areas of your site, distributed fairly evenly across the site or you can be giving too much PageRank away to external links, depending on how your sites linking structure is designed.

The architecture of your site should allow your visitors to quickly and easily find the information they are looking for. If you use this system, the PageRank will be spread across the pages, however, this will afford you some stability in the search ranking results and if your site is a pleasure to use, many people will link to it and your traffic levels will increase naturally.

Google page rank measures the number of links that point to your website and also the quality of the site on a scale on 0-10. The sites that are of high quality receive a higher page rank, based on the number of visitors to the site. The Google page rank is used to help determine the relevance of a page to the web community.

Architecture design also needs to take into account, certainly in the UK, the guidelines for making a site accessible to users with disabilities. Some users with disabilities use special browsers to search the web. They need to be catered for, because there is now legislation in effect within the UK that will financially penalise sites who do not take these users into account. Resources for accessibility can be found in our accessibility section, or you can get in touch with us, as we have a great deal of experience in this area.
